Raúl Tapias is CEO and co-founder of Ecertic, a company pioneer in technological developments in the areas of electronic signature and digital identity. In less than three years it has become one of the leading Spanish companies of the field, thanks to its innovative vision of digital identity and the improvement of the customer experience with the optimization of onboarding processes. We talk with him to know what he thinks about the startups and entrepeneur world. 

1)      What does South Summit mean for you? What do you expect from this event?

South Summit is one of the most important innovation events in the world, analyzing more than 3,000 startups from 84 countries. We hope to show our vision of digital identity and how it can change our relationship with companies.

2)      Why did you decide to participate in the competition?

As a global reference event on startups, it gives us the possibility to expand horizons. We have a unique project that deserves to be known by the business world and the entrepreneurial ecosystem and South Summit is the ideal platform to continue with the momentum that is helping us to continue growing.

3)      Why did you decide to start your business and how did you come up with the idea?

I worked for more than 15 years in multinational companies and I really wanted to change the way we interact with them. In managerial positions of sales departments, I realized that customer onboarding is the key point of any commercial relation, because it’s the beginning. We just used the digital technologies to improve that process.

4)      Why your company is useful for the user?

We use advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, and we put them accessible to people in their mobile devices, so that the way they identify and sign contracts comes to be very easy, and timeless.

5)      How did you feel when you knew you were finalist?

We were really grateful, because it means that the hard work that we are doing for these three years, is recognized, not only from our customers, but from a jury that analyses thousands of companies

6)      What do you think it will happen in the future of startups?

Startups are the new ecosystem of change. They can be so brave to try what others thought it was impossible or really difficult. With the startup model, the world can go to its best, because they make business with even tiny improvements that big companies wouldn’t matter, and this model leads to excellence.

7)      What advice would you give to those who want to participate in South Summit?

Work hard, believe in you, stay firm on your goals and show what you can do, to the rest of the world.

8)      What does being an entrepreneur mean for you?

It means to never give up, always trying to look for a way to do something better.

9)      What´s your dream in life?

To develop something that people use worldwide, that makes their lives easier.
